We invite your child to join us for a FREE 90-minute Coding Workshop to give kids a taste of what programming is all about! They will learn how to make a robot move and more in a virtual FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) world using FIRST Robotics Canada FTC SIM.

What Your Child will Learn

Each workshop will be led by two or more instructors from the world of FIRST Robotics Canada. They will teach your child how to code with Blocks or Java and to navigate their robot through increasingly difficult challenges. FIRST Canada is committed to running each session with Gracious Professionalism (GP) at its core. GP is a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity are one of FIRST Robotics Canada’s five Strategic Pillars. We aim to make our workshops accessible to all.

About the FTC SIM:

FTC SIM is a virtual coding tool that allows users to code and run a virtual FIRST® Tech Challenge robot autonomously. It has been curated and refined by seasoned industry specialists along with an internal technology team to teach users everything from basic movement to how to use sensors and various programming syntax.

Consent for Participation

FIRST Robotics Canada Virtual Coding Sessions

FIRST Robotics Canada Virtual Coding Sessions Runs one Thursday a month starting on September 22nd, 2022 “FIRST Robotics Canada Virtual Coding Sessions (the "Program"). I understand that participants will be required to login virtually to the program and that the program may be recorded. The Program will be presented by FIRST Robotics Canada and each session will be one to one and a half hours long running one Thursday a month starting September 22nd, 2022.

I understand that there is no fee or other cost charged for participation in the Program. In consideration for allowing your child to participate in the Program, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is acknowledged, I hereby fully discharge and forever release FIRST Robotics Canada., its divisions, subsidiaries, affiliated and related companies, partners and associates, direct or indirect, advertising and promotional agencies, and all of their respective agents, partners, employees, representatives, shareholders, officers, directors, successors and assigns (collectively, the "Releases"), of and from any and all claims, demands, losses, damages , actions or causes of action whatsoever, whether known or unknown, whether at law or in equity which I or my heirs, executors, administrators, successors or assigns may now or hereafter have against any of the Releases in connection with the Program notwithstanding that such claim, demand, loss, damage , action or cause of action may have been contributed to or occasioned by the negligence or gross negligence of any of the Releases.

I further hereby irrevocably grant to FIRST Robotics Canada all rights of every kind, whether now known or becoming known, in and to all motion picture or still photographs made by or on behalf of FIRST Robotics Canada of my child’s likeness, voice, appearances or the sound recordings of my child’s voice, including, without limitation, the right to present or license others to present and use these photographs and sound recordings by any now known or later discovered means including in adaptations for radio, television or electronic transmission, and the use of any photographs and sound recordings for advertising, promotion or commercial purposes of any kind without the payment of additional compensation

The foregoing permission is given for the benefit of FIRST Robotics Canada and for the benefit of their respective successors, assigns and any persons, firms, or corporations through which FIRST Robotics Canada shall have the right to use or present photographs, recordings. Your child will not be identified by name. I understand that Program staff reserve the right to dismiss or restrict my child from participating in the Program if my child’s conduct or behaviour threatens my child’s safety or the safety of other participants is disruptive or is otherwise inappropriate as determined by Program staff.
