FIRST Canada is proud to offer $5000 CAD to one recipient (non-renewable) to encourage Indigenous peoples across Canada (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) to pursue post-secondary studies in certificate, diploma, applied degree and bachelor’s degree programs.
The FIRST Canada Scholarship Committee will be accepting applications for the “Indigenous Scholarship Award” Canadian students who have been FIRST team participants in FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge or FIRST Robotics Competition program in Canada are encouraged to apply. One scholarship will be awarded per school calendar year.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must:
- Complete and submit the application form by February 15, 2024
- First Nation (status and non-status), Inuit and Métis high school students from an Indigenous community
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or have protected person status under: Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Enrolled full-time in a high school within Canada at time of application
- Participated on a FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge or FIRST LEGO League team in Canada;
- Be eligible to enroll, and agree to enroll as a full-time student in an accredited college or university, apprenticeship starting no later than the fall semester of 2024; and use the scholarship to pursue a major or degree program at a college or university
- Be a student who is a dedicated role model in FIRST
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number.
The FIRST Canada Scholarship Committee will select the scholarship recipient. A total of one scholarship will be awarded per school calendar year. One winner will be announced in 2024.
Application Instructions
*To apply for the Scholarship, you must apply to online with the following documents no later than February 15, 2024: Please include the following in your application:
- A letter of recommendation from a high school instructor from whom you have taken one or more classes
- A brief essay (no more than 500 words) in which you discuss
- your participation in FIRST, and the program’s impact on your life.
- If you have experienced adversity, how did you overcome it and use it to your benefit?
- How are you making a difference, and what is your plan to do so moving forward
- Your official high school transcript
If you are a home-schooled student, please get in touch with the FIRST Scholarship Committee for instructions on what materials you should provide in lieu of a letter of recommendation and transcript.

FIRST Canada will announce the recipient of the Scholarship in 2024. To receive your initial disbursement of scholarship funds, you must send FIRST Canada, your SIN Number, a letter requesting the funds, and a confirmation of the college or university to which the funds should be sent. These should be sent by the end of the second week of classes.
